the west collective

Hello, I'm Patricia

Artist, ceramicist, gardener, and lifelong maker of things.

My love of creating and growing began in a small Perth backyard, inspired by the lessons passed down from my grandmother in Goa, India. What started with a handful of fruit and vegetable plants blossomed into a lifelong passion for art, gardening, and living closely with nature.

Today, from my home in Darlington, the Perth Hills, I spend my days creating, growing, and dreaming up new projects. Whether I'm working with clay in the studio, planning the next season's garden, tending flowers and vegetables, or caring for my beloved flock of chickens—Betty Brunhilda, Bernice, Blossum and Bertram—I'm constantly inspired by the beauty and rhythms of the natural world.

Through The West Collective, I bring together my love of art, heritage, craftsmanship, and slow living. It is a space where creativity and nature meet, celebrating the simple rituals, meaningful moments, and everyday beauty that enrich our lives.

I hope my work inspires you to slow down, reconnect with nature, and find joy in the simple things.

Welcome to my little corner of the world.

Everything that slows us down and forces patience, everything that sets us back into the slow circles of nature, is a help. Gardening is an instrument of grace.

Our philosophy

Slow-living principles, by connecting to nature and growing flowers, fruit and veg. Welcome to our world.

It's all about the details

High standards and thoughtful consideration. Cause you deserve the best

The love of gardening is a seed once sown that never dies.

- Gertrude Jerkyll

When I first started pottering around my new garden, I invariably needed to collect produce and eggs along the way as well as a variety of garden tools. After dropping an egg or three..I swapped from using a garden tool belt to carrying a cane basket. This proved untenable as I would track precious soil into the house, or the cane basket(s) would rot and break from weight and water damage.

While the Dutch Garden Trug design looked ideal to my needs, I was concerned that it would either warp or be easily damaged as it was made from pine. Many broken cane baskets later, I pulled out the power tools to
design the basket of my dreams.

Intentional design

Everything we do starts with why

Made in Western Australia

Built for the Australian climate

Built to last

We believe in building better

Scouring the inter-webs, I searched far and wide for my dream basket. Just like Amanda from “Some Kind of Wonderful”,

I wrote a list for my perfect guy...I mean basket

It had to be:

  • Lightweight and sturdy
  • Delicate in looks not performance
  • Multi-purpose and easily stored

Be able to be used to:

  • Rinse veggies to remove soil particles
  • Hold small produce like cherry tomatoes
  • Not trap organic matter (this was crucial as it drove me crazy)

Enter the Harvest Basket. Made of Tasmanian Oak, a lovely Australian hardwood and galvanised steel. It’s dreamy with a capital D.

FAQs

How to clean my Harvest Basket?

We recommend regularly running a damp cloth over the Harvest Basket and air dry in a well -entilated area.

How do I care for the wooden components?

Applying a sealant every year or two is advisable. This will maintain the integrity of the finish and wood.

Do I store it handle up or down?

Whichever way takes your fancy. The Harvest Basket is created to be taken from garden to table and stored away when not in use. Tbh, we don't see that happening.

Can I use spirit-based cleaners on my Harvest Basket?

No. We strongly recommend you do use any spirit-based cleaner as this will reduce the effectiveness and integrity of the basket.

Can I leave it out in all weather conditions and soak it?

The Harvest Basket is water-proof not
water-resistant.

What does that mean?

The Harvest Basket is not impervious to water. Though water-resistant it can withstand submersion or being left out in heavy rain. It is very important that it is dried and aired as soon as possible.

Is it okay to force dry or dry it directly in front of a heating source?

No, we recommend your Harvest Basket be dried in a well-ventilated area. Force drying the wooden components can cause warping.
